Let’s Study Systematically: How to Make a Plan for BCBA Exam

Life is always busy. Especially when you have to work and study at the same time, right? You’ve already taken a long journey for your graduate study, your coursework, and your fieldwork hours. Now, it’s the final step! You are only left with the exam before officially becoming a BCBA. So give yourself a good study plan, pass the exam on the first attempt and enjoy your future career! Let us tell you some plan tips, and give you a detailed plan example for BCBA exam. Hope these are going to be helpful for you.

Specify Your Time & Mission

Lots of people think making a plan is like “Oh I will finish my report this weekend” or “I’m going to revise study material in the evenings”. Please be aware, that this is NOT a plan. This is just a random talk. A plan should be like a meeting, with a specific time point, and you should strictly follow it. A plan should be like “I will revise my study material from 7 to 9 pm every evening from Monday to Friday.” Normally, people can’t use any excuse to escape from important company meetings, so take this attitude to your plan as well. Once you set up the specific time point and follow it, you’ve already achieved half of the success.

The second thing you need to do is to decide the content you plan to revise. For instance, you can give yourself a week for task list A since this section is more about foundational terms and definitions and it’s easier to understand and remember. Your planned time can be flexible to some extent depending on your everyday study content. If you give yourself 10 extra quizzes for that day, you may be finished half hour later. In contrast, if the other day’s contents are really easy, you can end up earlier and give yourself a good rest. However, make sure your everyday workload is somehow the same, and don’t condense too much content in one day. It’s not realistic to finish the whole task list within one night, isn’t it?

Choose the Resources You Like

Another important tip before your revision is to know which way can make your study more efficient. Some people like to start revision just one month or a few weeks before the exam because a condensed revision will help them remember the knowledge better. The others believe a long-term study will help them to understand the knowledge more thoroughly. While some people like to use the textbook and then make revision notes by themselves, others are more willing to try real exam questions and take a mock exam. Having the right revision method is both time and cost-efficient. Choosing resources is really depending on yourself.

There are some suggested study resources, such as: flashcards, personalized study notes, Facebook groups, and Youtube videos and et cetera. If you wish to know more about BCBA study resources, our previous blog provides a detailed introduction to them. Take a look!
